Operational Management

There isn’t a typical SSP manager, any more than there is a typical SSP brand. Our managers reflect the diversity of our business, coming from a multitude of backgrounds to help us face a million different challenges.

It’s just a question of which challenge you seek. From running a café in a local rail station to overseeing a dozen retail and catering outlets in an international airport, the only limit to your ambitions are your capabilities. Even then, our dedication to training and development means you will be able to reach a little bit further every day.

1. First Step into Management
This is usually a supporting role as a Supervisor or an Assistant Manager in a small unit, like the Pumpkin retail catering unit at Reading rail station.

2. Taking on Greater Responsibility
This could see you being a Deputy or Assistant Manager at a busy unit with a big team, like the Burger King at Waterloo Station. You could also be a Unit Manager with full responsibility for a single, small outlet, such as the Echo Bar at Bristol Airport.

3. Significant Management Challenge
This is a full management role where you’ll ensure the commercial success of a key unit, like a Retail Store Manager for M&S Simply Food at Euston Rail Station.

4. Move into Multi-Brand, Multi-Unit Leadership
Quite often, this will be within one of our single site locations, where you’ll be a manager responsible for all of our units, for example, operating out of Manchester Airport’s South Terminal.

5. Senior Level Management
Strategic and highly talented, operating at this level will offer significant challenge and opportunity to make your mark within SSP. You may fulfil the role of General Manager, responsible for all units, brands and related operations within a large airport location. Alternatively, within our rail operations an Operational Manager will have regional control, and lead a management team of several outlets in different rail locations.

6. Strategic Excellence
The very pinnacle of our organisation, where you will be a Director or Head of Department, free to lead the strategic and commercial direction of your operation.
